Turkish Ceramics Promotion Group hosts six leading architectural firms of England in İstanbul

11.12.2013

Turkish Ceramics Promotion Group hosted six leading architectural firms of England in Istanbul between 21-24 November 2013 under the ‘Kiosk’ concept project it executes jointly with the Architects’ Journal (AJ), the prestigious architectural journal of England, on the occasion of Westanbul Eastanbul Architectural Weekend held for the second time this year.

During the sightseeing held with the participation Mr. Rory Olcayto, assistant editor of the Architects’ Journal, the architects examined the kiosks, water fountains evolving from the Ottoman architecture to this day and the historical ceramics used in those structures, having the opportunity to become closely acquainted with the contemporary ceramics and sanitary ware sector in Turkey.

Following the presentations given by Mr. Ali Onat Türker and Mr. Gökhan Karakuş at Salt Galata on the history of Turkish Architecture and the history of Turkish ceramics, the participants accompanied by Ms. Nisa Semiz examined the traditional buildings dating from the Ottoman period, and visited both the ceramics production plants and stores, thus completing the preliminary research phase of the project.

Contemporary ‘kiosk’ design concepts to be designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, AHMM, Eric Parry Architects, Studio Weave, Adam Architecture and Hopkins Architects of England by taking inspiration from the traditional Ottoman kiosk form will be offered to the London design world’s appreciation during the one-month exhibition to be held in February 2014 under the Kiosk project executed with the contributions of Turkishceramics.
